SEASON 37 | March 2025

Green New Theatre Youth Playwriting Residency
April 26, 2025, 12:30pm

Join us for a staged reading featuring original youth-written 10-minute plays on environmental issues, developed through The VORTEX’s Green New Theatre Youth Playwriting Residency. Over four weeks, youth (ages 13-18) have explored playwriting fundamentals, crafted and refined scripts, and collaborated with professional playwrights and dramaturgs. Their work will be presented in a staged reading featuring The VORTEX company artists as performers and directors, followed by a talkback session.

  • Featuring plays by: Alexandria, Amsterdam, Cal, Evanna, and Holden

  • Youth work to be published in Austin Bat Cave’s anthology

This residency, part of VORTEX Voices: Youth Creative Writing Residencies, nurtures young playwrights in a collaborative and inclusive space, encouraging BIPOC, queer, and disabled youth to participate. Facilitated by Kate Caldwell and Annase Raji, this program also features guest workshops from professional writers.

This program is proudly presented in partnership with Austin Bat Cave.
